Elevated Nucleated Red Blood Cells in Neonates with Down Syndrome and Pulmonary Hypertension. We report an association between higher absolute nucleated red blood cells and mean corpuscular volume and idiopathic persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn in neonates with Down syndrome. Elevation of these blood indicies should prompt echocardiographic studies to monitor pulmonary arterial pressures.
