Comparing the Risk of Sudden Unexpected Infant Death to Common Causes of Childhood Injury Death. In a secondary analysis of publicly available data, the rate of sudden unexplained infant death in the first year exceeded the peak rates of the leading causes of injury death for youth (≤19 years of age). The absolute risk of sudden unexplained infant death exceeded age-specific risks of the major causes of child injury mortality regardless of race or ethnicity.
