Management of fluid overload in hemodialysis patients. Fluid overload is a common and important complication encountered in the care of patients with end-stage kidney failure receiving hemodialysis. Fluid overload not only causes unpleasant symptomatology for patients on dialysis, but also leads to increased incidence of hospitalization and mortality. Given the association of fluid overload with adverse outcomes in patients with end-stage kidney failure on hemodialysis, it is paramount that we identify effective and reliable methods to determine fluid status in such patients.
