IgA nephropathy: new insights into the role of complement. Glomerular complement deposition is common in IgA nephropathy, and recent genome-wide association studies point to a role of complement factor H and complement factor H-related proteins in disease susceptibility. A number of recent studies have now documented elevated levels of some factor H-related proteins in IgA nephropathy, which might contribute to enhanced complement activation.
