How to sharpen a novel sword from AKI basic research. No specific drug against acute kidney injury is clinically available and novel findings in basic research urgently need to be translated to the clinical in order to improve the outcome of patients. Chen and colleagues demonstrated the protective role of tenascin-C on acute kidney injury by using animal models and in vitro and ex vivo experiments. We need to find a better way to overcome the barrier for translation of this new target.
