Guidance for Beverages in the Diets of Children Younger Than 2 Years. ABSTRACT: Recently the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine reported a summary of recommendations from high-income countries on what and how to feed infants and children from birth to 2 years of age. The report notes generally consistent recommendations against providing sugar-sweetened beverages (SSB), juice, and beverages that contain nonnutritive sweeteners to infants and children younger than 2 years. When counselling parents and other caregivers, pediatricians should feel empowered to advise against offering these beverages.
