Oral Cryotherapy for Preventing Oral Mucositis in Patients Receiving Cancer Treatment. Clinical Question: In patients receiving treatment for cancer, does oral cryotherapy prevent oral mucositis? Bottom Line: Oral cryotherapy is effective for the prevention of oral mucositis in adults receiving fluorouracil-based chemotherapy for solid cancers, and for the prevention of severe oral mucositis in adults receiving high-dose melphalan-based chemotherapy before hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT).
