Peri-myocarditis caused by topical rectal mesalamine. Peri-myocarditis has been associated to mesalamine use. The definite association and use of topical rectal mesalamine to peri-myocarditis is not commonly known. In this case, we present a 46-year-old male exposed repeatedly to mesalamine with repeated peri-myocarditis. The relation to the medication was definite. Although an uncommon side effect of mesalamine, the possibility of peri or myocarditis should be considered. Awareness and early recognition may avoid potentially severe complications.
