Extreme opioid-induced constipation in advanced cancer: successful management. Unrecognised and untreated constipation may be a serious risk for complications, including definitive obstruction due to faecal impact or perforation due to the hypertensive intraluminal state. An intensive approach in an acute supportive palliative care unit may resolve the clinical picture allowing the resumption of intestinal transit in a short period of time.
