Pediatric Ambulatory Anesthesia Challenges. Ambulatory surgery in the pediatric population can be similar to adult ambulatory with a few different challenges. Success is best determined by appropriate preoperative screening. Issues common in pediatrics are the respiratory infection, asthma, congenital heart disease and syndromes, as well as sleep apnea. Risk factors for adverse respiratory events and patient transfer differ from adults as do data for rapid discharge.
